Teaching on Spirits: Day 25

Armor of God pt 2

Breastplate of Righteousness.

So we should have Truth, because if we start out in the wrong way it will be tough to correct later, although it can be done. There's nothing worse than a mixed message!

"The imagery is of an armed Roman or Israelite soldier, prepared for battle. A typical armed soldier wore a breastplate made of bronze or chain mail. It covered the vital organs, namely, the heart, and was fitted with loops or buckles that attached it to a thick belt. If the belt was loosened, the breastplate slipped right off." (Gotquestions)

Don't you want your vitals COVERED?! Notice that without TRUTH your breastplate will not stay in place...that's why we start with the belt of truth and THEN put on the breastplate of righteousness.

"13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness."
(Ephesians 6:13-14)

Let us be reminded it's not our righteousness, but that which is given through us by Christ's sacrifice and the giving of his life. Also, this isn't something that happens AUTOMATICALLY...

"We are instructed to “put on” this armor, which implies that we do not automatically wear it all the time. Putting on the armor of God requires a decision on our part. To put on the breastplate of righteousness, we must first have the belt of truth firmly in place." (Gotquestions)
