Perhaps they told you directly themselves, or insinuated it by means of some "metaphorical message". You know the common hint-hint/wink-wink people occasionally give to alert you to the obvious.
Maybe they passed word through someone else. All you know is you've been waiting for a good bit of time and just when you think that promise, word, agreement should be made good on; it hasn't.
What happens when God is that somebody?
Is it possible that she might take "too long"?!

Good thing I took a law studies class, served in jury duty, and watch a lot of justice shows on television.
Hopefully my case holds up!
SN: This entry may be more aptly titled, "When God Takes too Long".
Psalm 27 (MSG) #verseOfReflection #d-shedRemix
3b When all hell breaks loose, I’m collected and cool.
...
7 Listen, God, I’m calling at the top of my lungs: “
Be good to me! Answer me!”
...
14 Take heart. Don’t quit.
I’ll say it again: Stay with God.
Amen.
Throughout my lifetime many people had said they would do this or that for me.
I've had a parental figure ask what I wanted for my eight birthday and even though I'm a Kobe Bryant fan, I never did receive that shirt/jersey. There are friends who told me they'd pay me back and it didn't come to fruition. Let's not mention those times I was supposed to catch up with you and you let the moment slip by as if we didn't even plan to hang out. These words are trustworthy and true: I expect this from people. God on the other hand is another story.
#myComplaint
For all intents and purposes let's say that God sent word to me via someone else about all of these great things that would be "added" to me in due time. Specifically, we'll go with the American dream (or what is was): an education, 2 story house, family/kids (2.5 to be exact) and a white picket fence. Let's not forget Fido (the dog). Now, we understand that God works in his own timing and there's no reason to rush into this dream being realized...but how long does it take?! I mean, really.
To further this illustration, said message came a little over 2.5 years ago. How long will it take for this promise to be fulfilled??? Education is covered. I'm currently stuck with my parents. There doesn't seem to be a suitable mate on this side of the Atlantic and there's no need for the fence without the wife, kids, and 2 car garage to go with it! Why bother getting a pet, since it's for the kids, not for me.
In my heart I think:
I've worked very hard these last 3 years at school, church, and home. Practically giving more than I should have. Why is it that I have yet to see a significant change in my life?!
Understand it's been two and a half years. Hello! What's taking so long?! I mean, you're not sleeping are you? Trying to not sound as an ungrateful brat; just doesn't make sense to me.
Your Honor, I rest my case.
...
Of course now you're probably wondering: What does this have to do with me?! And why would I care.
Many of us have been putting in hard work and due diligence to get where we want to be. Perhaps we've been in school getting an education because that's supposed to lead to a job. Maybe you've been putting in work trying to discern the qualities you want in a person you could spend the rest of your life with only to be disappointed time and time again. Or it could be something as simple as waiting on someone to take you to _____ because you've always wanted to go and they said you'd go together.
I mean, think about it. There's a lot in your life that you've been waiting on. Some of it you figured would just happen on it's own (kind of like magic). In other instances you've got off the couch and are making an effort to bring it to pass.
I can't tell you why some things take so long. What reason the government has for all of its bureaucracy and red tape. Or how come every generation we seem to run into the same problems that should've been addressed and dealt with a long time ago (pick a problem in today's society, any problem).
I don't have an answer as to why God would give us messages, dreams, visions and the skills to accomplish these things only for them to take forever to become a reality.
I suppose the most comfort and solace I can provide is that you should continue to persevere against all obstacles and challenges, remain patient even in the midst of what seems to be a slow reality, and continue to plan so that when the opportunity presents itself or the dream becomes a reality, you'll be more than ready.
That's what life really is about when it boils down to it. No matter how long it takes, or how long they take or what goes wrong, you have to keep "chugging along" or as Dory says: "Keep swimming."
It really is that simple.
Who knows when that message will come true for me. When I'll be able to give thanks for God coming through once again. All I know based on my limited life experience is that he comes through. If you plan, persevere, and remain patient those things will come through for you too. And if at all possible, get yourself a team. "No man is an island unto himself".
SN2: I complained to God...mucho times; coming to realize sharing how I feel and being honest strengthens a relationship more than hinders it, when done properly.
Who or what in your life is taking too long?
Sumthn2Ponder (s2p):
- Do you know how to persevere (or what this means in action)?
- Are you accustomed with being patient (and have you grown in it)?
- What does it mean to stay with God?
- How will you plan? Where do you start?
- When's the last time you complained honestly? Did it shift your thinking?
In case you need it
