This. Is. Gospel.

Yikes!!!

Cue the New Edition track #isthistheEnd?

School...is...just...about..out.

It's been #countingFingasNtoes 15 weeks in this semester thus far. Gots 1 mo' left.

As I think back over the last #doingMathTakesaMin 15 divided by 4...carry; 3.5 months a lot has transpired.

That was just a quick glimpse into my painfully excruciating mental process currently. I'm still not 100%...more on that later.

Anywho, it's been 3.5 months of toil and turmoil...so tumultuous. Gosh, you got to love 'T' words. Kind of reminds me of my days watching Sesame Street.

Proverbs 4:7 (MSG)
3-9 When I was a boy at my father's knee, the pride and joy of my mother,
He would sit me down and drill me: "Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live!
Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding!
Don't forget one word! Don't deviate an inch!
Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life;
love her—she keeps her eye on you.
Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom!
Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding!
Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it;
never let her go—she'll make your life glorious.
She'll garland your life with grace,
she'll festoon your days with beauty."

Where was I...that's right! The semester is almost over; I want you to take a second and think back though. Go to when you were a child, or maybe a little older between elementary and middle school. High school might work for this scenario as well. Was there ever a time when someone told you something and you kind of, just accepted it? You didn't really question because either it was a trusted adult, you knew it was the truth or perhaps you saw it on T.V. and it sounded like there really was only one way to say the letter "tee"...as in toe-may-toe...or ta-mah-toe depending on what works for you.

The point is that there are many times in our lives where we are fed information, facts, figures, data and in some cases we may not even question the integrity, validity or substance of the "stuff" that we get. In some situations we take it in, kind of like gossip and give it somewhat of a pedestal in the throne room of truth.

SN: I've realized quickly that not everyone knows what they're talking about because they don't have all the information. More importantly they're missing out on key details (which you may have). It's kind of funny but sad at the same time to hear someone say something and either be corrected or there be a pause b\c someone knows "that's not right".

Looking back at the first few weeks of school there was a phrase that I'd constantly hear, "We're (I'm) not saying it's gospel." In those instances the professor or person of administrative stature was simply providing a disclaimer to whatever the context was of their thoughts, opinions, and suggestions at the time.

For me I found it to be extremely funny because, well I believe in the Gospel (of Jesus Christ). Gospel means "good news" (aka glad tidings) and from a historical perspective Jesus Christ lived a life exemplifying the "good news" he so often talked about. This was so much the case that sometimes people refer to the first four books of the New Testament and also the life of Christ as "The Gospel of Jesus (the) Christ".

#culturalContext
Does anyone remember that song T.I. got a Grammy nomination for? Something or another where he keeps saying, "Wat you kno about that? I kno all about that." I'm not suggesting you go listen to it; however, it's relevant. This is one of many songs where a rapper talks about the "life they lead". There's the money, girls and fame. Not everyone is able to identify with it, and therefore doesn't "know about that". In this piece of "digital mastery" he's staking claim to what he knows and goes into detail about how he knows so much. One could argue whether or not he "really" knows or is #commercial like many people who sign contracts to make money these days.

If someone tried to sell you something because "they know (all) about it" and you're the wiser understanding that they really don't, would you still buy it from them? (This can be applied in so many ways. Homework: Figure out different situations where it can apply; more than life & music.)

What's my point?! We all should take time to dig deeper and get more of an understanding in anything we dedicate our time, talent or resources too. It's worth the payoff in the end, knowing and grasping the fact that what we know is indeed "gospel" or the truth. Depending on what it is, it may even be (really) good news.

When it comes to the Holy Bible as it's so often referred, there's only so much that can be said that really means anything. I can't do it justice so I'm going to have to close by saying this. When I read the Word and take time to reflect on how it applies to my life, forces me to be honest with myself and bring about change, all I can think...#gavelDrops

GOSPEL

Sumthn2Ponder (s2p):
  • Is there a "fact" that you believe is true (i.e. Truth, Gospel, etc.)?
  • How does it feel when someone tells you something is "gospel" and you know it's not?
  • Why do you think people use the word "gospel" in a comparative nature?

It's okay to change your mind...
after all it's not election season

In Case You Need It:
He Lives Lyrics

1. I am unashamed of the gospel because it saves those who believe. First it[the power of God] to the Jew and then to the Gentile (e.g. People like me) (Romans 1:16)

2. I have to preach the gospel; it's more than [a] habit...it's addicting. Pity me if I don't. (1 Corinthians 9:16)

Shouts out to my daddy who taught me...to chase the gospel.
