No Mo Limpin #theInterlude

Maaaan...it's 2 am and I can't sleep.

To write this post is all I need. (Inspired by Kanye's Coldest Winter)

The Interlude

There's so much to think about these days. Weather is still off the Richter with a recent cyclone in India, more earthquakes in the Philippines, and the folks in Colorado who are now in deeper sh...doo, due to a government shutdown caused by people that we were so graciously eager to elect to office (a few people that is). I know many kind hearted citizens in the United States are pretty upset about what's going on. For me, I'd love to drive my fist into the face of those responsible, but I realize there are much better alternatives...including becoming one of the many who actually make decisions and can force a change to occur in Washington, D.C. Whether I'll do it from the outside or inside the beltway is to be determined.

I digress...

On Sunday as I was driving back home from dropping my brother off for work "Some Nights" came on the radio. Time and again I had heard this song recently because it's one of the more popular ones in rotation at the moment. That basically means that you'll hear it over and over again because that's how it works in the corporate music business, which is another reason why it's hard to diversify the music industry from a corporate standpoint; another story.

As I was listening I knew a key phrase was coming up in the song: " Oh Lord, I'm still not sure what I stand for. What do I stand for?...Who am I?" Not too much earlier "Same Love" had played along with a few other songs. I began to realize the significance being held within the lyrics. Not so much that I didn't know what I stood for, more so the importance of standing for something no matter where it puts you or who it might put you up against.

Personally I'm prepared to turn America on it's head for too many reasons to count, most of which are so obvious if you take 15 minutes out to watch the news on our current state of politics. The issue isn't just politics because our political snafus are a reflection of bigger systemic issues in our society and our world globally.

If I can challenge Carnegie Mellon University (and academia for that matter) to do a better job of taking care of their graduate students (and have them accept the challenge), I reason that the same is possible with America, our politics, and level of interest and education towards achieving "an informed citizenry".

Don't worry, there will be plenty of this to come during the season.

Looks like I was finally able to stick with the short format.

Here's to the end of the government shutdown #cheers

  • What do I stand for?
  • Who am I?
  • Will they look at my life and say, "(S)He made a difference"?

In case you need it:

Someone's interpretation of the lyrics...
"I'm going to make a completely different analysis about what this song is about. I look at it as [a] man who is trying to fit into a world that won't change. He is a down to earth man trying to fit into a world that relies on media and propaganda, but overlooks what is right and just. Furthermore, the world is getting worse and not subject to change their actions. This man must either comply to the world or be alone in solitude with his own beliefs."
