Milk & Cookies, one of my favorite pasttimes; for more than some big jolly guy in a red suit.
Remember taking an Oreo and twisting it apart to see which side would have the most "icing" on it. If you dared, you might even try to guess before hand as a part of some game or to test out your "psychic" abilities.
I also believe these two items help us to remember what it's like to be a child and carry that belief into conversations of a much deeper meaning. After all the journey of faith is built off of our beliefs and...in many cases you have to be able to embrace that child-ful level of belief (or imagination) if you expect to grow.
Before we go any further, I have to give you a quick history lesson #hereComeTheGroans. Apparently, "dunking" has been around for a long time. It seems to be somewhat of a "delicacy" in the USA/UK. Going beyond milk and cookies, "biscuits" (cookies) may also be dunked in coffee and/or tea. Of course you can dunk something (e.g. Donuts, French Toast Sticks, etc) into just about any type of liquid-like solution; however, these seem to be the most common.
Now that the history lesson is over, let's take a quick look at a recent movie that came out which will help us in today's discussion....
Could you live a life where you did everything because you were supposed too, or someone expected you to do it...just because (e.g. It's what we've always done), without any feedback or input from you?! There are folks who live lives similar to Wesley, don't think this is far fetched, because it's not.

On June 22 of this year I gave a talk (similar to the video that follows) at my church's Christian Hip-hop Celebration. The context was about taking care of ourselves as individuals and communities to become everything we're created to be (i.e. Cultivating potential). A quick background on my home church: We were celebrating 15 years of ministry at the time, had been threatened to be "closed" earlier on and...I've served in some capacity at this church since its inception. So at this talk you could say, I "earned" the right to speak. Keep this in mind (i.e. My involvement) when thinking on what it means for a "village to raise a child".
An example of someone who was "taken care of" and had their potential cultivated: Gabby Douglas

Here's another quick take on the history of dunking:
"This dunking practice was undoubtedly an invention born from necessity in ancient times. Cookies, or biscuits as they're still called in the UK, were the major calorie provider for soldiers on military campaigns and for sailors on the long sea voyages. The biscuits were made with just flour or other milled grain, salt, and water. They were baked until dry and very hard...Variously known as hardtack, ship biscuits, and pilot biscuits, they were never meant to be eaten without dunking in liquid to soften them."

A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
